I live in the White Mountains and was surprised to find your blog on the Watcher - a destination I've visited many, many times. My grandfather was Clyde Smith who originally cut the abandoned "Eagle Cliff Trail" which led to the Watcher lookout. That old trail is hard to follow (it left the highway near the Echo Lake exit and followed the ridgeline), but parts still remain. I usually take the rock climber route you describe, but follow the right gully instead of the left since it is much easier to climb and does not have that terrible scramble that the left side does. Lots of great lost trails in these parts - I look forward to seeing more of your Lost Acadia entries! Thanks again.
